About Youth Addiction and Mental Health

Mental health issues and substance use problems often begin in the teen and early adult years. Addressing the issue early can help to reduce the supports needed and increases the chance for a better long-term outcome and improved mental wellness.

The Government of Alberta, Alberta Health Services, PolicyWise for Children & Families, and the Canadian Mental Health Association of Edmonton have developed a website—help4me.ca—to help young people recognize and understand early signs and symptoms of addiction and mental health problems that they, or someone they know may be facing. Help4me.ca also has important information on addiction and mental health supports and services.

Help4me.ca would not have been possible without the support of Bell Let's Talk, and the teens and young adults who gave us their feedback along the way.

Sections of help4me.ca have been adapted with permission from mindcheck.ca, 2016.
