Your Guide After a Hip Fracture (Breaking a Hip)

Your guide after a hip fracture

Recovering from a broken (fractured) hip is a team effort. It includes you, your family and friends, and your healthcare team. Your healthcare team is made up of:

  • doctors
  • nurses
  • physical therapists (PTs)
  • occupational therapists (OTs)
  • a social worker
  • a dietitian
  • a geriatric specialist (a healthcare professional who specializes in working with older adults)

This resource will help you understand what to expect after you break your hip. It will also give you information to help with your recovery. Please let your healthcare team know if you have questions or concerns.

Hip Fracture Care Pathway

The Hip Fracture Care Pathway is used to plan your care and transition from the hospital (where you go after your surgery). A pathway shows you all of the steps in your treatment, starting before your surgery to your recovery at home. Your healthcare team will work with you and your family so that you recover faster and go home sooner.
