Dysarthria of speech

Dysarthria is a speech disorder that happens when speech muscles become weak or paralyzed (unable to move). When you speak, it can sound like you are slurring or muffling your words.

Dysarthria can happen at any age. It can be caused by a neurologic (involving the brain, spinal cord, and nerves) injury, disease, or other disorder. Speech-language pathologists can help.
