Getting Ready for Your Child’s Surgery

Planning, getting ready, and thinking clearly as you prepare for your child’s surgery is hard. The following information will prepare you to talk with your child before they go to the hospital for surgery. Knowing what to expect and how to prepare ahead of time will help to lessen anxiety for both you and your child. The 2 most important things to do:

  • Make sure your child follows the rules for eating and drinking on the day before surgery.
  • Arrive at the hospital on time. Give yourself an extra 30 minutes for parking and walking to the hospital.
