Heart Disease Risk Calculator
Overview
Page Content
If you’re 30 years of age or older, this calculator can tell you about your cardiovascular risk. Cardiovascular risk is based, in part, on your heart age, and tells you what your chances are of having a heart attack or stroke in the next 10 years. Your heart age is influenced by various risk factors, such as blood pressure and cholesterol.
This calculator was created by Alberta cardiologists using the Framingham Risk Score, and is based on the Canadian Cardiovascular Society guidelines. You can use this calculator even if you don’t know your blood pressure or cholesterol numbers. It’s recommended you see your healthcare provider to get your real numbers. Even small changes to any one of these risk factors can make big changes to your heart health, and heart age. Find out how you can make
healthy living a part of your lifestyle. This calculator is for people who don’t already have a diagnosis of heart disease or stroke. If you’ve had a heart attack or stroke in the past, you’re already at high risk.
Remember: this calculator is meant to give you a general idea of your heart age and risk for heart attack or stroke. If you want a more thorough overview of your cardiovascular risk, the Canadian Cardiovascular Society recommends My Health Check Up. This tool uses more health information (like height, weight and activity) when calculating your heart health and risk. Keep in mind you may get a different result when using another cardiovascular risk calculator. Results may be close but not exactly the same and are only an estimate. You should talk to your doctor about these differences.
