Have your child take a bath or shower and shampoo their hair. Braid long hair or tie it back in a ponytail. Use special soap if you were asked to use it.
Take off all nail polish from fingers of both hands and have your child remove:
- make-up
- jewelry including all piercings from the ears, face, and body
Eating and drinking before surgery
For your child’s safety, you will get instructions on eating and drinking before surgery. If your child doesn’t follow the eating and drinking instructions, your child’s surgery may be cancelled. What are clear fluids?
Clear fluids are liquids that you can see through, such as:
- water
- apple juice without pulp (not freshly squeezed)
Babies can have sterile water, bottled sugar water, or electrolyte solutions such as Pedialyte. Don’t give your child any kind of milk.
