Exercises before surgery – Phase 1 exercises

These exercises will help you build strength before your surgery. Do these exercises now and keep doing them after surgery until your healthcare team lets you know when to start phase 2 Exercises. Exercise will help your surgery be successful and help you get back to normal, everyday living.

  • Do these exercises on both legs, slowly and with control.
  • Do all exercises 3 to 5 times each day.
  • Repeat each exercise 5 to 10 times, as you’re able. Work up to repeating 10 times if you start with a smaller number and it doesn’t hurt too much.

After your surgery, do the foot and ankle exercises every hour.
