Vitamin D Testing in Alberta
Guidelines for Vitamin D Testing
Page Content
Vitamin D is a nutrient that may help lower the risk of some diseases, but you don’t need to get a blood test to find out how much Vitamin D is in your body.
In Alberta, you can only get this blood test if you have a medical condition that could be affected by low levels of vitamin D. This includes medical conditions such as:
- blood calcium levels that are too high or too low
- metabolic bone diseases (e.g., osteoporosis, Paget’s disease)
- problems absorbing nutrients (e.g., celiac disease, small intestine surgery, taking anticonvulsant medicine)
- chronic kidney or liver disease
